Vehicle Portraiture by Kevin Cyr Posted: 29 May 2011 04:04 AM PDT You're probably already familiar with Brooklyn artist Kevin Cyr's amazing eco vehicles. His art first caught my eye with his rather amusing yet poignant Camper Bike and Camper Kart. However I only recently discovered his paintings including amazing set of particularly unkempt street vehicle and van series of portraits. So meticulous in detail and colour they almost constitute an ode or perhaps even a visual eulogy to the combustion engine. Each removed from their context in true Duchampian style, and presented as art in all their ugly glory. Each is a mixed media work comprising of screen print and oils on board. 'In a culture in which people are easily lured by the appeal of status-enhancing symbols,I find beauty in derelict cars and unkempt landscapes.' – Kevin Cyr |
