SWAB

The international art fair SWAB returns for it's 4th year in SWAB from May 26 to May 29 of 2011 in Barcelona. Founded in 2006 by Contemporary Art Space from Barcelona Diezy7, a private contemporary art collection with the support of 50 renowned and respected national and International galleries and the City of Barcelona and the Generalitat de Catalunya. SWAB's choice of galleries aims to focus on works by younger, emerging, contemporary art stars – most of who were born after the 1970′s.

SWAB is a highly respected Art platform, built to give this new generation of artists the opportunity to have their work seen by members of the public, and the global art community, including: leading art collectors, dealers, press and curators. There will also be a new commissioned section: Art Projects. Laurent Fiévet and Silvia Guerra, from the Lab'bel, Laboratoire Artistique du groupe Bel, will be in charge of this particular space made up of half a dozen galleries that will feature works by young artists that bear watching closely. The main selection committee is made up of gallery owners Christian Ehrentraut (Christian Ehrentraut, Berlin), Kristian Jarmuschek (Kristian Jarmuschek + Partner’s, Berlin), Fred Mann (Fred Ltd, London), Miguel Angel Sanchez (ADN, Barcelona) and Suzanne Tarasieve (Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve, Paris), as well as commissioner Javier Panera (director of the DA2 Museum in Salamanca).

The fair’s VIP programming – coordinated by Monica Alvarez Careaga (AC2. Santander, Lisbon), will give guest collectors and news media an exciting vision of the artistic creation currently produced and shown in Barcelona. In the same breath, the Swab Off Program will colonize a number of public places around town with several proposals. Swab is endorsed by the Barcelona City Hall and features MANGO as its top sponsor.

Furthermore, Swab is proud to announce the creation of MYFAF, a new space for its forthcoming edition in May 2011. The aim of MYFAF (My First Art Fair) is to bring the opportunity to a very young gallery to participate in an international contemporary art fair with any cost. This unique opportunity makes it easy for the gallery to gain experience in the art market, participating in a fair with galleries from all over the world. This will be a unique opportunity both for the gallery selected and for SWAB, ensuring that the youngest artists and galleries are present in its new edition. Galleries with no more than two years of existence (opening not before 2009) are invited to apply by filling in the MYFAFApplication form.
